Snow White Trailer - SOULLESS CASH GRAB

My musings about the trailer for Disney's live action remake of Snow White - They better hope the movie is better!

Greetings everyone,

Today, we're steering away from the planned discussion to delve into the much-debated Snow White Trailer.

This film has navigated a sea of controversies,

starting with Disney's knee-jerk reaction to Peter Dinklage's critique of the portrayal of dwarves. It’s clear that Dinklage missed the point that the dwarves in question are mythical beings, sparking a backlash from the community of little people due to the loss of potential roles. Disney, in an attempt to rectify this, reintroduced the dwarves, but as bizarre CGI creations.

Adding fuel to the fire, we have the somewhat misguided comments from Rachel Zegler, a young, promising actress. Her comments came across as self-important, particularly considering she's yet to make a mark with a successful movie. There's criticism over the racial swapping of the character Snow White, which many have viewed as an unnecessary attempt to diversify a European folk tale. Would you call that cultural appropriation?

The controversy doesn't stop there, with Gal Gadot's nationality also becoming a focal point.

With all these distractions, the pressure was on for the trailer to deliver, but sadly, it fell short of the mark.

The general audience may not be aware of all these controversies, but the trailer does little to sell the movie. As someone who enjoyed the original during a cinema re-release in my youth, I was disappointed to find the magic of this fairy tale to be conspicuously missing. The trailer comes across as contrived and uninspiring.

Zegler, an undoubtedly talented actress, appears disinterested in most shots, and far from the fairest of all in temperament. Gal Gadot, on the other hand, seems to be having fun, but the bizarre CGI dwarves are a letdown. The eeriness that should be associated with the witch and her apple is instead transferred to the dwarves.

The soundtrack, a new song about empowerment, also feels out of place. A classic score would have done wonders to tie the trailer together. Instead, the unfamiliar tune adds to the disjointedness.

I may not be the target demographic as a middle-aged man, but considering many men of my age group have children who are, our opinion still matters.
It's disappointing to say, but this film seems less like a labour of love and more like a cynical cash grab. It lacks depth and soul.

Perhaps the full movie will deliver a more satisfying experience, but the trailer needs to do better to draw audiences in.

Do you share my view of the trailer, or did you find it appealing?
