765874 - Unification - MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY

My musings about 765874 - Unification - the Star Trek short film from OTOY, which moved me to tears - no spoilers ...
Greetings everyone,
Today, we're not following our usual vlog theme and instead, I'll be delving into the enthralling world of "765874 Unification". It's a fan-made Star Trek film, though calling it that doesn't quite do it justice.
It's a labour of love by true Star Trek aficionados who not only adore the franchise but also truly get its essence. Adding to its credibility, the legendary William Shatner graces this film, lending it an authentic Star Trek vibe.
Many fans, myself included, felt that Star Trek Generation didn't give the iconic character, Kirk, the grand exit he deserved. His death in the movie was disappointingly mundane. Rumour has it that Shatner himself was not pleased with his character's send-off.
Three decades later, we are treated to "765874 Unification", a digital masterpiece that revisits the moment of Kirk's death. It offers a poignant reflection on Kirk's life and character, reviving some forgotten characters along the way.
This film leans more towards the philosophical and emotional aspects of Star Trek rather than the action-packed approach of recent outings. Personally, I believe Star Trek shines brightest when it explores philosophical themes and human relationships, something that was glaringly absent in JJ Abrams' action-oriented remakes.
Modern Star Trek, with its contrived emotions and superficial relationships, fails to grasp this essence. An exception could perhaps be fleetingly in Picard season 3. "765874 Unification" on the other hand, despite its lack of dialogue, manages to communicate volumes through Shatner's fabulous acting and a soul-stirring soundtrack.
Initially, the uncanny valley effect might draw your attention away from the narrative, as you marvel at the impressive digital effects. However, as the film progresses, you are drawn in, and by the time the final scene rolls, you are deeply invested in it. I must admit, I found the film deeply moving and brought tears to my eyes.
"765874 Unification" is a stunning piece of filmmaking that would captivate even the casual viewer. For a long-term fan of Star Trek like myself, the film beautifully encapsulates everything that the original series and movies stood for.
I wholeheartedly recommend watching this film if you can find it. It's currently available on YouTube, and I've included a link in the description.
I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Was it too uncanny valley for your taste, or were you as overwhelmed by its imagery as I was?
Thanks for reading. If you enjoyed this article, don't forget to like and subscribe. Until next time, peace out.
